San Diego State University's American Language Institute (ALI) is the international programs division of SDSU Global Campus, located on the San Diego State University campus. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, ALI offers a wide range of programs for international students including Intensive English, English for Academic Purposes, a Semester at SDSU, University Pathway admission to SDSU undergraduate programs, Pre-MBA and Pre-Masters preparation, Business English, and Teacher Training. Students attend from countries around the world on F-1 and other visa types.
USH and HomestayMatch are listed as homestay providers on the SDSU American Language Institute's official housing page. Everything is included in one flat monthly rate — your furnished room, Wi-Fi, utilities, and an English-speaking American host family. No lease to sign. No credit history needed. No furniture to buy. Just arrive and settle in.
Your host family is your first connection to American life. You practice English every day at home — not just in the classroom. You learn how Americans cook, celebrate, and live. Many international students say their host family became some of their closest friends in the US.
Short stays of 4 weeks and longer stays are both available, so your housing near SDSU matches your program length exactly. Airport pickup is available upon request — contact our office for details.

Yes. Students in the SDSU University Pathway program are preparing to transition into full degree study at San Diego State University. Living with an American host family accelerates that transition — you practice English daily at home, build familiarity with American culture and daily life, and arrive at your SDSU degree program better prepared than students who lived alone in an apartment.
Yes. USH accommodates study abroad groups and student delegations attending SDSU Global Campus programs. Contact our office for group availability and rates.
Stays start at a minimum of 4 weeks. You can book short-term or for a full academic semester. There is no long-term lease required.
