LA Welcomes International Homestay Students for SMC

Santa Monica welcomes many international visitors who come from abroad to experience the homestay program at SMC. Santa Monica College (SMC), as its name implies, is situated in the beachside community of Santa Monica that neighbors Los Angeles’ Westside. International students who participate in an homestay at SMC will discover rich educational and social opportunities with other internationals and local Americans. A homestay for SMC students provides more than lodging and a homey home base. A homestay with an American host family gives international students the chance to interact with the local culture and people. Whether for its boba shops or lobster houses, LA folk travel to Santa Monica for its diverse class of eateries and entertainment. Plus, the nearby beachfront and Santa Monica mountains provide easy access to outdoor activities and stunning sunsets! Besides nature, the city also offers organics at Natural Foods Co-op, local produce at weekly Farmers’ Market, and great shopping on the Third Street Promenade.…Where you’ll also find a choice of movie theaters, outdoor cafés, and the occasional movie or TV actor out shopping at the Apple store! (I ran into Mark Harmon of NCIS there.) Los Angeles will also entice international homestay students with spots to visit in Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Silver Lake, downtown, and all around town. No car? Santa Monica Big Blue Bus offers extensive bus line service throughout the local community, Westside and parts of LA. Other city buses fill in the gap. Santa Monica College students are sure to have a positive learning experience, a great time exploring the city of Santa Monica and visiting other cities in the Greater Los Angeles area.

If you would like more information about homestays in Los Angeles to explore with your host family, feel free to get in contact with our staff. We look forward to hearing from you!
