Manhattan English Center (MEC) is a licensed ESL school located in Midtown Manhattan, steps from Penn Station in New York City. MEC is certified by SEVP to enroll F-1 international students and offers English language programs for students from around the world, including general English, conversation, and exam preparation courses.
Universal Student Housing and HomestayMatch place international students with verified American host families in the New York City metro area. Your host family provides a private furnished room, daily breakfast, and a welcoming home base while you study at MEC. Living with an American family puts you in English immersion around the clock — conversations at home reinforce everything you practice in the classroom.
Every host family in our network is screened and verified before placement. We match you based on your school location, schedule, dietary needs, and personal preferences. Once your placement is confirmed, you receive a Welcome Packet with everything you need to get settled, including local transit routes to help you get to campus. Airport transfer may be available as an add-on service when you apply — contact our office to confirm availability.
MEC students arrive throughout the year for programs of varying lengths. We offer flexible stays starting from four weeks, with easy extensions as your plans develop.

Absolutely. Living with an American host family means you're speaking and listening to English from morning to night. Meals, everyday conversations, and life at home all become part of your language learning — something no classroom alone can replicate.
