The American Language and Culture Institute (ALCI) is an intensive English language program located on the campus of California State University San Marcos in San Marcos, California. ALCI offers English language instruction at multiple proficiency levels, along with a pathway option that allows qualified students to take university courses alongside their language studies. Students who successfully complete the Intensive English Pathway program may receive conditional admission to CSUSM undergraduate or graduate programs without a TOEFL or IELTS score. ALCI issues I-20 documents and supports F-1 visa students throughout their studies at the university.
USH offers homestay accommodation for international students attending the ALCI at CSU San Marcos. Everything is included in one flat monthly rate: your furnished private room, Wi-Fi, utilities, and an English-speaking American host family. No lease to sign. No credit history required. No furniture to buy. Just arrive and settle in.
Living with a host family is one of the best ways to experience American culture firsthand, and for ALCI students focused on building their English skills, that daily immersion at home makes a real difference. Your host family can also help you get oriented in the San Marcos area, find your way to campus, and feel comfortable in your new environment from day one.
Short stays of 4 weeks and longer stays are both available, so your housing near CSUSM matches your program length exactly. Airport pickup is available upon request. Contact our office for details.

Yes. Students in the ALCI Pathway program are preparing to transition into full university studies at CSUSM or another US institution.
